This research does not focus on shaman or bomoh, or traditional Malay healing practices. It focuses only on Islamic complementary medicine. The term of “complementary” here is not about displacing or replacing the modern medicine. It is not  an “alternative” to modern medicine.  Instead, it complements modern healing practices. It does not use any form of intermediaries like Jinn or  an alien in the healing process. At the end of this research, the outcomes are expected to contribute to formulation of legal procedures to curb sihr (black magic) in the society, carry out forensic investigation of foreign items extracted from the body of the patients-victims, and enforce penalties on black magic practitioners, if found guilty.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr Hafizah is not able to make it as a panelist in the forum, and Dr Amir Shahmi B. Md Ali, a medical practitioner and a GAPPIMA member,  agreed to sit in as a panelist.

  1. I applaud all of your efforts to formulate legal procedures against those who wish harm upon others through the use of sihr, a cruel method unseen by the naked eye. Proving someone guilty of this requires very tangible proofs as such not to put the blame on an innocent person. I am very much interested in this, not as a researcher, but as a layperson who has fallen victim to this practice of black magic. Given the nature of this crime being subtle and deliberately set in such a manner that it defies logic, going through, and still going through, this experience has weakened me in some ways and at times made me desperately clutch at every effort to stop myself from going insane. It is a lonely cry for help but yet others, especially close ones, look at me as if I am making everything up. For your information, I recently finally gave up on my pursuit of getting a PhD, as the stress of getting ill too often had taken a toll on my research.

Since the registration of the seminar has already closed, is it possible for me to access to any videos of the talks? My intention is to understand more of what I’m going through using an academic platform, that I’m not alone in this struggle to cure myself, and that there is a way to get justice for the crime committed.

Thank you very much for reading this. May Allah bless all your effort to put a stop to using black magic.
